 Oklahoma State University's
Radiation Safety Program operates under the supervision of the Oklahoma
Department of Environmental Quality. DEQ expects licensees to conduct
their programs with meticulous attention to detail and a high standard
of compliance. Because of the serious consequences to employees and the
public that can result from failure to comply with DEQ requirements, authorized
users must conduct their radiation safety program according to the conditions
of the DEQ license, representations made in the license application, and
DEQ Radiation Management Rules. In particular, note that authorized users
MUST:
- Operate by Oklahoma
Administrative Code (OAC) 252:410-10-19 {10 CFR Part 19}, "Notices,
Instructions and Reports to Workers: Inspection and Investigations,"
OAC 252:410-20 {10 CFR Part 10}, "Standards for Protection Against
Radiation," and other applicable rules.
Persons
using or planning to use radiological materials in research
or instruction must have prior approval from the Radiological
Safety Officer and Committee. Laboratory inspections may be
a pre-requisite to this approval. Contact Dan Van Gent, Radiation
Safety Officer if you are anticipating the use of radiological
materials, adding isotopes for which you have not received committee
approval, or purchasing x-ray equipment.
Initial and continued
training are provided in general sessions throughout the year. The
dates are listed on the Training web site. All training is done by
the URC Assistant application, which can be accessed by clicking on
URC Assistant link on the right-hand side of this page. If you are
unsure of what level of training is needed for principal investigators,
staff, and students, contact Dan Van Gent at 744-8721.
