

Oklahoma State University (OSU)
policy requires that faculty, staff, students, post docs, visiting
scientists or other personnel planning to use lasers in research or
instruction have prior approval from OSU’s Laser Safety Officer.
Laboratory inspection is a prerequisite to this approval. Laboratory
inspections are conducted by OSU’s Laser Safety Officer. Professor
J.D. Brown serves as the Laser Safety Officer, in addition to being an
Associate Professor in the Division of Engineering Technology.
Professor Brown's experience includes over five years as safety
engineer at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, where he was
responsible for the lab's laser safety program.
The
Office of University Research Compliance provides administrative
support to the Laser Safety Officer and OSU’s Laser Safety Committee.
The faculty driven Laser Safety Committee, is chaired by Dr.
Al Rosenberger of the Department of Physics. The Vice Chair
is Dr. Ken Bartels of the Center for Veterinary Health Sciences.
